Ice Cream Buffet !?!?!?!?!

These few days the hot and humid weather is simple getting from bad to worst. And I just simply couldn't get rid of the idea of eating scoops of ice cream out of my mind.

'Ice Cream Buffet'
And the search for 'Ice Cream Buffet' begins. They have pop in more than 10
different flavors of ice cream over here and taste wise, there's the common flavors
like 'Strawberry', 'Vanilla', 'Chocolate', they also have special flavors like
'Lychee', 'Coconut', etc... On top of that, the texture of the ice cream varies too,
which makes this far too good for a 'Ice Cream Buffet'.

So where can you give the 'Ice Cream Buffet' a good try?

The name of this place would be 'maple loft cafe'.

A cheaper version of ...

If you are into 'Xing Hwa' dishes and you don't have the budget to step into a restaurant, then you would probably want to give the following alternative a good try.

'Xing Hwa Fried Bee Hoon'(兴化炒米粉)
Frankly speaking, I'm not so much into Bee Hoon(Rice Vermicelli). I prefer Noodles
much much more. But after giving the 'Xing Hwa' version a good try, I think I'm
pretty okay with this. Probably I'm into peanuts and seafood, therefore I can
accept this dish pretty easily. Besides for the generous load of ingredients that
include 'vegetables', 'peanuts', slices of 'fish cake', 'prawns', 'seaweed',
'clams' and also slices of meat. On top of that, you can also give their special
blend of chilli a good try.

The number of ingredients that was added into this dish, are good enough to attract
one's attention. Taste wise, after pouring in all the different types of chilli,
I'm getting these nice tasty sparks inside my mouth. On top of that, the fried rice
vermicelli ain't that dry, in fact they still have this moist touch till the very
very last mouthful of it. And on top of that, probably due to the ingredients that
was thrown into this plate, therefore every single mouthful also comes with a nice
sweet taste too, which is worth a very big (+).

So where can you give this delicious dish a good try?
The name of this place would be 'Fu Zhen Seafood Restaurant'(福珍海鲜园).

Worst than Dante's Inferno....

There's a reason why I'm giving the post such a title. But for a start, let's take a look at what they are offering over here...

'Papadum'
For a start, the 'Papadum' is pretty crispy. It's so shiok that one could easily forget
about the mains and wipe out the whole basket of crispy 'Papadum'.

It also comes with the 'hari chutney'. Even though this sauce is a given but it isn't
something that attracts me that much. What interest me the most would be the mains.

This is a billboard to indicate the different levels of chilli that they are offering
over here. According to the staff over here, you need to wipe out a plate of level 6
in order to earn the ticket to the next level. And there's quite a bit of rules and
regulations that you have to take note... Hence being a spicy food lover, I
decided to go for...

Since this my first and I don't think that it can get any spicier than my crazy
experience with a 'Si Chuan Ma La' hot pot, hence I decided to give the 'Level 6
Fish Curry' a good try.

'Level 6 Fish Curry'
You can choose to have it with a tube of white rice or Saffron Rice... But I ended
up trying out both of them... I will explain why later. Anyway, while placing our
orders, the warm-hearted waitress was like 'are you sure you want to take on level
6 Fish Curry?' and since this was my first visit, she's advising me to go with the
'Level 6 Chicken Curry' instead. Being over confident, I decided to stick with my
decision and here's my order.

Before moving on to the dish, let me list down the rules and regulations over here
first. For a start, you must finish everything yourself (Of Course lah) and you
cannot take any beverage(s) while eating. The rules might sound simple but wait till
you give it a try. :D

As for the dish itself, the first few spoonful are pretty okay(I guess). Though
the dish is spicy, but one can easily differentiate the taste of the super thick
fiery curry and the taste of the sweet fish. But as I dig in further, I started
getting this burning/beating sensation in my stomach... -.-"""" And that is
pretty stunning. But that isn't the worst part, after a few more bites later,
my fingers felt as if they are going to burst through the skin. And I haven't
had such an experience for quite some time. And the worst part? I'm running out
of rice and the fresh portion of vegetables. Time for the second portion....
=.="""" With a second portion of rice, I finally managed to wipe out all the
spicy fish meat. But I was told that I need to wipe out the harmless looking
fish curry too. Seriously, once you can survive through 90% of this dish, the
remaining portion isn't such a big deal anymore.

'Winning Peg(?)'
Once you have accomplished level 6, you will be given this peg and at the same
time, you have to leave your particulars with them. You can decorate the peg a
bit and hang it next to the billboard of spicy level. Hence, this is my design.
As for the bit why you have to leave your particulars, is mainly because you can
only give level 7 onwards a try after you have achieve the peg for level 6. And
you can only move 1 level at a time. Meaning you have to move from 6 -> 7 -...> 10
one by one. And like a Pyramid, the number of pegs hanging up there gets lesser
and lesser as you move up the billboard. Oh by the way, they are holding the
high levels spicy food-tasting session known as the 'Full Moon Party Chilli
Challenge' once a month. And it's free if you can wipe out the high level curries
by yourself. Do take note that only the chosen ones will be invited. (They will
either drop you a sms or an email.) Isn't it great? You can kill multiple birds
with one stone. You can have your dinner, get the peg to gain access to the next
level and at the same time, push yourself to the limits (spicy level).... :P

'Chocolate Ice Cream'
Since the day we visited this place was 3 days after my birthday, they have pop
in this ice cream for free too. This is pretty helpful since my stomach was
still undergoing this burning/beating sensation after 15 minutes or so. Though
this has reduce the beating sensation a bit but it's insufficient. In the end I
ended up wiping out 2 big bottles of milk to try to put out the burning sensation
but apparently that doesn't prove to be effective too.

So where can you give this challenge a good try?

Rice Buffet....?

Have you come across a rice buffet before? Yes? How about a 'Chilli' buffet...? And this has something to do with the post today.

'Nasi Lemak'
Pretty ordinary looking right? But, do you know that over here they are providing
unlimited refills of 'Nasi Lemak Rice' over here? On top of that, they are also
providing 2 different types of 'Sambal' chilli over here. There's the 'sweet'
Sambal and the 'spicy' Sambal. And the best part? You can have unlimited helpings
to the 'Sambal' chilli too. Frankly speaking, these 'Sambal' chilli are pretty
tasty. I could easily wipe out a whole plate of rice, just by helping myself to
the 'Sambal' chilli.

Though they have different prices for the different types of ingredients over
here, but I have decided to go ahead with the 'Fried Egg', 'Fried Fish', 'Chicken
Wing', 'Peanuts & Ikan Bilis' and 'Cucumber'. The ingredients over here are pretty
okay, the 'Chicken Wing' ain't too oily, and it still has this crispy coating that
goes around the whole thing. And these ingredients can easily blend in with the
taste of the 'Sambal' chilli too. Though the 'Sambal' are tasty but I personally
find them not spicy enough for me... (And do not doubt me, I have actually tried
both types of 'Sambal'. Though it matches the name that they have given them but
my tolerance for Spicy food is pretty high. :P)

'Power Burger'
Pretty much resembles a 'Ramly Burger', but over here it's known as a 'Power Burger'.

Nope, there isn't any vegetables. There's only a patty wrapped inside a fried egg,
which goes inside a normal bun. This makes me wonder if I can request for a second
patty to be added, because 1 patty is simply not sufficient to fill up all the empty
space in my stomach. Taste wise, this is pretty meaty. Though you can choose the
type of patty that goes inside the 'Power Burger', but it's not meaty enough. Though
I still think that it still lose out to a normal 'Ramly Burger' that comes with a
bit of veggie. :D

So where can you give all these stuff a good try?

The name of this place would be 'Nasi Lemak Kukus'.
It's located near 'Little India MRT', along 'Selegie Road'.

A bowl of nothing...?

Regardless of the size of the hawker centre or the food court, there ought to be a stall selling simple stuff that one can digest easily and doesn't involve a lot of frying....

'Chicken Porridge'
If you are thinking of ordering something else, you might ended up to be pretty
disappointed, because over here they only prepare and sell porridge. Besides for
fish porridge, there's pork and chicken porridge too. And I guest it's time to
move on to the indulging part...

Over here you are given a choice to have the bowl of porridge with or without an
egg. I have decided to go ahead and place an order for a bowl of 'Chicken Porridge'
that comes with an egg... But wait where is my egg...??

Rather than adding a century egg into the bowl of porridge, they are actually
adding a raw egg into the bowl. Depending on your personal preference, you can
choose to mix all the ingredients together or set it by the side of the bowl
and let it solidify(becomes a cooked egg). I prefer the method of mixing all
the ingredients together. After spending a bit of time mixing the bowl of
porridge, it's time to dig into the bowl of porridge.

There's a good mix of egg, chewy minced chicken, spring onions and tasty
porridge in every single bite. Even though I didn't place an order for the
'You Tiao', or commonly known as the Chinese Doughnut, the amount of
ingredients that the stall has thrown in are good enough to turn this simple
looking bowl of porridge into something delicious.

So where can you give the porridge a good try?
The name of this stall would be 'Soon Lee'(顺利).
It's hidden inside 'Clementi Market and Food Centre'.

Getting a set meal, Sir?

Set meals, set meals, you can get a set meal for Chicken Rice, Sliced Fish Soup, Burgers... But I would never believe that such a set meal would actually exist till the very day that I have actually seen it.

'Rojak Set Meal'
This seems to be pretty much similar to the usual 'Rojak' except for a few
special ingredients that they have thrown in. For example, there's cuttlefish
slices and century egg. Luckily they didn't coat the century egg with the
'Rojak' sauce otherwise the taste might ended up to be pretty funky. :P

Besides for the century egg, most of the ingredients over here were covered
in this sweet and thick 'Rojak' sauce. And speaking of it, the ingredients
include stuff like 'Cucumbers', 'Pineapples', 'You Tiao'(Chinese doughnut),
etc... Though I'm not getting the usual 'Kang Kong' but with the amount of
peanuts that goes on top of the delicious spread is enough to open up my
appetite big big. :D So what am I going to eat next?

So where can you give the 'Rojak' a good try?

Dining with the unexpected...

I don't really mind stepping into a restaurant full of decorative elements. And it can get pretty interesting when there's....

Since I have a big appetite, I decided to give the buffet menu a good try,
so that I can keep the damage to my wallet to the minimum...

'Starters'
Since most of the starters looked pretty interesting, I ended up trying
quite a lot of them.

'Seasoned Baby Octopus'(日式章魚仔)
Nicely seasoned, this is one of the favorites in the Japanese gourmet
world. And they have prepared it nicely. :D Not too bad for a start.

'Seasoned Jellyfish'(日式涼拌海蜇)
This is equally good as compared to the octopus. The chewy sensation
are simply too superb.

'Mouth-watering Chicken'(重慶口水雞)
Time to spice things up a bit. The chilled slices of spicy chicken
can really spice up my life?.

'Crispy Fish Skin with Salt & Pepper'(瑚盐魚皮)
Not getting the salty and pepperish touch, these crispy fish slices are
pretty nice in texture but pretty bland in taste.

'Fried Tofu with Sweet Chilli Sauce'(泰式炸豆腐)
Not too stingy with the ingredients, the taste is pretty normal but the
the portion is definitely there. In fact, most of the starters over here
comes with a pretty generous portion and great taste. In fact, I could
simply just stick to the starters only.

'Skewered food'('Satay'/'Yakitori'/'串烧')
Most of the 'skewered food' over here are pretty up to standards. Not
only it's chewy, the succulent meat chunks are simply irresistible,
especially those that are marked with a Japanese/local symbol on the
menu. In terms of the texture, those that are marker with the Chinese
symbol isn't that bad, it's just that they have covered those sticks
with a layer of overpowering pepper & salt, which makes it pretty
disturbing.... =.=""

Top: 'Enoki Mushroom'(金针菇)
Middle: 'Eggplant with Minced Garlic'(蒜香茄子)
Bottom: 'Butter Pumpkin'(牛油烤南瓜)
For the health-conscious, they also have a good selection of vegetables
dishes. Not too outstanding, but the taste isn't that bad either. :D

'Saba with Miso'(味噌烤鲭鱼)
Flooded with lots of tiny bones, but the sweet taste of the fish is
there. Just need to be extra careful with the bones. :P

'Japanese Udon'(日式乌冬面)
For the hard core eaters, there's always the Rice and Noodles alternative
too. Though I have given the Udon noodles a try but the use of ingredients
are pretty funky. Not that the taste is bad, it just that it seems to be
more of a Udon version of 'yakisoba'.

Time to make preparations for the last few dishes. Doesn't seems to work
as a Japanese Miso soup. But luckily I have placed orders for the...
'Miso Soup'(日式味噌汤)

Top: 'Coconut Creme Brulee'(椰香蛋塔)
Bottom: 'Cheese Cake'(豆腐芝士蛋糕)
After all the heaty stuff, time to work on the chilly stuff. The smooth
texture of these sweet desserts are pretty nice. I should have set aside a
bigger portion of my stomach for these desserts.

Here's a few photos of their menu. The buffet includes most of the stuff
except for the 'Premium' and the 'Beverages'.

The whole place is decorated with all these interesting action figures
and toys that are the 'in' thing in the past. I wonder how much effort
is needed to prevent people from stealing them.

So where can you give these dishes a good try?
The name of this place would be 'taan Charcoal Grilled Skewers Beer'(炭烤串烧啤酒).
