Not enough...

What is not enough? That would be the size of our stomach. Actually, we had a Karaoke session a few months ago. After that, we decided to settle our dinner at a place nearby...

We ended up choosing this.
The name of this 'Japanese Buffet Restaurant' would be 'Kiseki'.
It's located on level 8 of 'Orchard Central'.

The wide selection of food over here is worth a very big (+).

For example, there's 'Chilled Seafood',

'fried small bites',

'Dessert', 'Fruits', etc...
They even have 'Soy Milk' over here too.

Even the 'beverages' selection over here can be pretty amazing.
There's 'Tea', 'Coffee', 'Juices', 'Soft Drinks', etc...

...However, the tables here are slightly a bit too small for the
4 of us. But 1 thing that I would like to compliment would be the
choices over here. There's 'Oden'(Boiled ingredients served in a
broth), 'Gyoza'(Dumplings), 'Hot Pot', etc... In other words,
though the food over here isn't super fantastic, but there's lots
of choices for you to choose, which is pretty satisfying. The
biggest weakness would be the size of our stomach isn't big enough
to outbeat all the different choices. Isn't it great if a human
being can have 2 interchangeable stomachs, then you would have
more than enough space to give all the different interesting food
options out there a good try?

Note: I personally find the service of this restaurant to be pretty
good. When we were placing an order for a glasses of water after
10pm, the waiter actually went down and bought us bottles of water
for free, which is a pretty rare sight nowadays.

    Dinner:18:00 - 22:30(Last Order:21:30)

Delicacy that is dying out...

I was thinking of going to Beach Road the other day to spend a bit of money and give the delicious 'Herbal Bak Kut Teh' a try. However, it seems that they have wind up their shop and I have to look for a new alternative again... =.=

After you have gotten yourself a table & seat and once you have placed
your orders, the workers over here will be placing 2 baskets of chilli
on your table. Basically there's the bigger sliced chillies and the
smaller ones, or more commonly known as 'Chilli Padi'. Well, you can
go ahead and do a bit of D.I.Y too. Since there's both the light and
dark 'Soy Sauce' too, hence you can mix and match your favorite plate
of chilli.

On my 1st visit, I have gone ahead placing an order for this and a
bowl of white rice. I will skip the bowl of white rice and move on
to the main dish, which is...

'Special Claypot Bak Kut Teh'(狀元瓦煲肉骨茶)
This is indeed pretty special. For a start ingredients like 'Black
Fungus', 'Mushrooms', 'Baby Corn', 'Fried Beancurd Skin', 'Pork Ribs',
'Pork Liver', 'Pork Stomach' and also a bit of 'greens'. Just the
variety of ingredients that was given, it's already worth a big (+).
Not only it's served warm, the nutritious and tasty soup is worth
another (+). Best of all, the taste of the soup have blend into all
the ingredients nicely, which enhances the overall taste of each and
every ingredient. And here comes another good reason for big eaters
to patron this place. You can top up the pot of soup endless time.
And in fact, the taste for the top ups are as good as the initial
serving, which comes with a nice herbal taste, which is a (+). In fact
the taste of the 'Bak Kut Teh' is so good that...

I went back to the same place the following week after the 1st visit.
But rather than going for the same stuff again, I decided to place an
order for a bowl of 'Yam Rice' instead.

'Yam Rice'(芋頭飯)
The 'Yam Rice' over here are pretty good too. It comes with chunks of
'Yam' and 'dried shrimps' were also thrown in throughout the process of
making a big pot of 'Yam Rice', in order to enhance the overall taste
of the 'Yam Rice' even further. When I was digging into this bowl of
'Yam Rice', the fragrance that comes with it is a (+) too. In fact
when they open up the rice cooker that contains the 'Yam Rice',
there's this tempting smell floating in the air... Yummy. With this
delicious option around, I don't think I will be touching a bowl of
white rice again.

Here's a copy of the bill.
It can give you a better idea of the food/dishes that they are making
and preparing over here. By the way, they also have the 'Cze Char'
dishes on the menu too. So in case you are having dinner in a big
group, you can always order a few dishes and share them among yourself.

The name of this place would be 'Sin Heng Claypot Bak Koot Teh'(新興瓦煲肉骨茶).
It's located along 'Joo Chiat Road', the part that is located near
'112 Katong Shopping Mall'.

Edible Kong Fu...

We were having our dinner over here. And rather than restricting ourselves to a type of food only, it will be much more interesting to place on order for different types of food, especially when there are more than a 150 food stalls over here. Things get more and more interesting especially when...

'Food that can be shared'
Actually, one of the biggest (+) of a big hawker center would be the
kind of food that they are offering over here. If you are hanging out
as a big group, you will be pretty amazed with the number of dishes
that can be shared among a group of people. For example, there's...

'Oyster Omelette'(蠔建)
Yes, I do agree that the taste and the texture of the thick chilli is
pretty alright. The batter of the 'Oyster Omelette' isn't that bad too.
On top of that the big and fat oysters were handled and prepared
properly too. However, the overall taste of the whole dish is pretty
ordinary. I just couldn't figure out what has went wrong with this dish. Maybe it needs a bit of a magic touch?

'White Carrot Cake'(白蘿蔔糕)
I can proudly say that I have just found another place that prepares
good 'White Carrot Cake'. Loaded with lots of egg, the batter is pretty
amazing for a start. Although it wasn't fully covered with a crispy skin,
but the soft and tasty 'Carrot Cake' is pretty awesome. Not only it's
tasty, it also comes with a nice aroma, which makes this a pretty rare
sight(smell?) nowadays. Besides for the normal plate of 'Carrot Cake',
they are also offering a plate of 'Carrot Cake' that comes with
delicious prawns too.

So where can you give the 'Carrot Cake' a good try?
The name of this stall would be 'Yi Sheng Gong Fu(億勝功夫)'.
It's located inside 'Old Airport Road Food Centre'.

The 2 Wings of a Chicken...

Everyone knows that a Chicken comes with 2 wings and different chefs will come up with their own special unique formula in order to savor it to the max. Hence...

'Half Spring Chicken' set
The set comes with 2 complement side dishes. We ended up choosing the
'Potato Wedges' and the 'Chilled Mash Potato Salad. As a side dish,
these 2 dishes are pretty interesting. The 'Potato Salad' seems to be
a mixture of normal 'Chilled Potato' and 'Coleslaw'. As I pop one of
them into my mouth, there's a nice mix of crunchy bits and mashed
ingredients inside my mouth. And there's also a nice mix of different
tastes, which is mainly made up of the 'Potato' and 'Coleslaw'. As for
the 'Potato Wedges', My friend was simply too fast for me. As I was
digging into parts of the Chicken, he has managed to wipe out all the
wedges within minutes. O.O This is the first time I saw him wiping out
all the ingredients at this rate, so I guess the wedges must be
pretty good.

As for the 'Spring Chicken', though it wasn't a relatively big one,
but the taste is pretty good. First of all, they didn't try to fake
the size of the 'Chicken' by covering it with a thick layer of flour
and tries to deep fried it. The 'Spring Chicken' over here comes with a
thin layer of crispy skin and on top of that, as you took a bite off
the 'Chicken', you will be pretty amazed with the moist and juicy meat.
Even though they didn't coat it with some special seasoning, but this
doesn't stops me from finishing the chicken, which is both delicious
and not too greasy at all.

'Chicken Wings'
These are the real deal. Not only they are relatively big in size,
these boring looking 'Chicken Wings' can be pretty deceiving when it
comes to the taste. Pretty much similar to the 'Spring Chicken', the
'Chicken Wings' ain't covered in a thick layer of flour, what it has
would be a thin layer of crispy skin too. On top of that, the skin isn't
too greasy and oily, which is worth another (+). Though I started off
using the fork and knife, but it gets kinda annoying when I couldn't
wipe out all the meat from the different corners, therefore I decided
to move on and use my bare hands to break the joint and wipe out all
the delicious bits, which is pretty awesome.

So where can you give the 'Chickens' a good try?
The name of this stall would be 'Two Wings'.
It's located inside one of the coffee shops along 'Bukit Merah Lane'.

Though looks kinda old but...

I have been having numerous meals around this area and I never thought that I can actually find such a stall over here. And here comes...

my lunch.
It comes with a plate of Noodles mixed with 'Kway Teow' and a few
types of ingredients.

For a start, the plate of Noodles comes with an acceptable portion
and taste. The reason why I have gone ahead placing an order for a
plate of Noodles is mainly due to the fact that some ingredients
will taste much better when you have it with something else. Too
bad they didn't offer other types of chilli's over here, else the
plate of Noodles might have tasted much more better with sliced
chillies. The Chinese sausage is pretty chewy and yummy for a start,
but it's nothing as compared to the 'Otah'. Anyway, the 'Otah' that
just left the barbecue stove minutes ago was fantastic. It's warm,
yummy, spicy and at the same time, it has this nice texture. Best of
all as I dig into it, the 'Otah' has this nice taste and aroma of
spicy fish meat, which is a (+) to me.

'Chicken Wings'.
One of the signature ingredients over here would be the 'Chicken
Wings'. How amazing the 'Chicken Wings' are? For a start, just by
taking a closer look at the styrofoam plate, there isn't traces of
oil that was left by the 'Chicken Wings', which makes it a good
start. As I took my first bite off the 'Wings', the juicy flesh
started bursting inside my mouth. As I took more and more bites, I
realized that the thin layer of skin is pretty crispy too. And one
of the winning factor would be the size of the 'Chicken Wings'. Not
only it tastes good, the size of it is a (+) too. :)

So where can you give the food a good try?
The name of this stall would be 'Eng Kee'(榮記).
It's located in one of the coffee shops located along 'Commonwealth Drive'.

Not fantastic enough...

If you are a foodie, as you do a search for good dining options, you will definitely come across 'Joo Chiat' district. Therefore it's time to give the food at 'Joo Chiat' a try. :)

'Prawn Kway Teow(Rice Noodles)'(Dry)
Not quite the same. And by default, rather than serving the normal
bowl of 'Prawn Noodles', they are serving a bowl of 'Pork Ribs
and Prawn Noodles' over here. Since I have ordered a 'dry' version
of the bowl of Noodles, therefore it also comes with a bowl of soup
too. The tasty bowl of soup is pretty amazing. It comes with a strong
taste and aroma of pork ribs and prawns. I wonder how much time was
needed to prepare such a delicious broth.

The bowl of Noodles looks pretty red to me. :| Besides for the
'Kway Teow', ingredients like 'beansprout', 'pork ribs', 'prawns',
'fried onions' and one of the most important ingredient, which is
the 'chilli powder' has been added into the bowl. Hmmm... after
mixing all the ingredients thoroughly, I'm pretty impress with
the taste of the bowl of 'Kway Teow'. Not only it's spicy, the
nice aroma of the fried onions are pretty good too. The chewy,
meaty Pork Ribs are a (+) too. However, the prawns are a big
disappointment. It will be much more better if they have spend a
more time preparing it. I personally find it a bit too dry, which
is not juicy enough for me. :|

So where can you give the bowl of Noodles a try?
The name of this stall would be 'Joo Chiat Prawn Mee'(如切肉骨虾面).
It's located in one of the coffee shops along 'Carpmael Road',
which is pretty near 'Joo Chiat Road'.

The 5 stars of Hougang...

Do take note this is a food blog and the title of this post has nothing to do with the Singapore flag.

'Grilled Fish Set'
This is the 2nd time I'm giving the western food over here a try.
For a start it comes with quite a variety of sides. There's
'Coleslaw', 'French Fries', 'Baked Beans', 'Garlic Bread' and a
bit of greens. The sides are pretty good for a start, there's the
crunchy and not too salty 'French Fries' and the 'Garlic Bread'
that comes with a thin and crispy crust, but comes with a nice
aroma and strong taste of 'Garlic', which deserves a (+). Unlike
the 'Fish & Chips' over here, the grilled fish isn't coat in a
crispy breaded layer. But the fish meat is actually pretty good.
The moist and sweet fish meat isn't too soft or too hard, which
is very important. And when you have it with the 'Tartar Sauce'
or the 'Fried Garlic', things tend to get more and more
delicious and interesting. :D

So where can you give the 'Grilled Fish' a good try?
The name of this stall would be '5 Star Corner Western Food'.
It's located in the coffee shop beneath 'Blk 805 Hougang Central'.

An interesting fish head... :)

Besides for Curry Fish Head, you can actually get several other types of Fish Head dishes in Singapore too. For example, there's 'Fish Head Hot Pot', 'Steam Fish Head', etc... Therefore for the post today, it's related to Fish Head too. :)

Looking from afar, this might appear to be a Curry or a Tom Yum
Fish Head, but in fact this is actually...

'Assam Fish Head'
They were trying to boost the sales, therefore when I was there
the other day, they were promoting some of the signature dishes
with a pretty good deal. As for my meal the other day, it only
cost me less than S$15, which is a pretty big (+) for a start.

'Fish Head' wise, excluding the 'Fish Head' itself, they have
actually added quite a few types of ingredients into this dish.
There's 'Lady Finger', 'Brinjal', 'Tomato', 'Pineapple', etc...
Just by covering the small little plate of rice with a bit of
gravy and all these ingredients, can really help me to gobble
up the whole plate of rice without any difficulty. Oh by the way
the taste of the gravy itself is pretty interesting. It's a nice
mixture of spicy, sour and a little bit sweet. On top of that,
it comes with a sharp and nice aroma, which is pretty appealing
for me. :)

Fish wise, though the sides are pretty normal but as I move
towards the jaw/mouth, the taste of the fish is actually getting
better and better. As I dip the nice mix of fresh fish meat and
collagen into the nice gravy, it actually boost the overall
taste of the meat to a whole new level, which is another (+).
It fact, when I left the place, I have dismantle all the fish
bones and wipe out all the meat and the delicious gravy.

So where can you give the 'Fish Head' a good try?

Noodles from KL to SG

I remembered that a few months ago, there was this article reporting how long and how crazy the queue over here was. And pretty much the same as the other newly introduced restaurants out there, usually the excitement will gradually die out over a period of time. Therefore, I decided that it's time for me to give it a try already.

'Signature Dry Chilli Pan Mee'(干捞辣椒幼面)
It comes with a pretty normal bowl of soup, which isn't that
important, but let's take a closer look at the bowl of Noodles.

The bowl of noodles comes with ingredients like 'Braised Minced
Meat', 'Meat Balls', 'Fried Anchovies' and a half-boiled egg. But
wait, before you start all the crazy stirring, you must...

add a scoop of their special blend of chilli first. Since they
have placed a bottle full of this special blend of Chilli on
top of each and every table, you can basically add as many scoop
of chilli as you like.

This will be what I'm getting after a bit of vigorous stirring.
The egg is completely gone and the bowl of Noodles is yellowish in
color. Taste wise, since all the ingredients were mixed together,
hence every single bite comes with this meaty and sweet sensation.
Though it also has the nice aroma of Chilli, but it's simply not
fiery enough for me. Besides for the taste, the good mix of chewy
and crunchy ingredients were a big (+) too. However, for the price
that I'm paying versus the portion that I'm getting, it can be a
bit disappointing. :|

So where can you give this bowl of 'Noodles' a good try?
The name of this place would be 'Kin Kin Chilli Pan Mee'(建记辣椒板面).
It's located along 'Macpherson Road', which is located near the infamous
'Kway Chap' stall along 'Macpherson Road'.

A redirect...

Initially, I was aiming for the 'Chicken Porridge' that was a few stalls away, but since it's not open, therefore I decided to give this a try instead...

Fish Soup + Rice
The bowl seems to be ridiculously big for a bowl of fish soup
of that size, but let's take a closer look.

The soup over here isn't as clear as those that you can get in
your neighborhood. But the taste of the soup is actually quite
good. They have sprinkle a bit of fried garlic into the soup
that enhances the overall taste of the soup. On top of that,
the generous portion of fish slices is a good start. Not only
it's fresh, the sweet taste of each individual slice is a (+)
too. Not too bad for a stall in the neighborhood.

So where can you give the fish soup a good try?
The name of this stall would be '128 Fish Porridge'(128鱼糜).
It's located inside 'Jurong West 505 Market & Food Centre'.

Western from Paris?

Frankly speaking, I haven't been to Paris yet so I'm not really sure what are the cuisine that you can get at Paris. However...

'Fish with Fried Rice'
I'm not so into Fries, unless I have an urge for an interesting
plate of fries, otherwise I would try to avoid it. As for the
Fish and Chips over here, you can choose to replace the portion
of Fries with a decent portion of Fried Rice. The tasty portion
of Fried Rice is a (+). Even though the soft bakes beans and
crunchy coleslaw are served cold but when you mix it with the
Fried Rice, they actually can blend deliciously together. :)

Fried to a delicious looking color, this looks pretty appealing.
Even though the texture looks pretty appealing, but the taste
is actually pretty normal and there's no Tartar sauce but for
the price I'm paying I'm actually getting a hearty meal, which
makes this a pretty good deal for lunch. :)

In fact, some of the set meals over here comes with the choice
of either Spaghetti/Fries or Fried Rice/Fries. Therefore if
you are afraid that the Fried Rice might appear to be a bit too
dry or bland for you, you can go for the meals, that comes with
the sweet brown sauce, which can improve both the taste and the
texture of the Fried Rice even further. :)

So where can you give the 'Fish and Chips' a good try?

2 sizes of Kueh Tutu

But wait, no matter how you look at it, the 'Kueh Tutu' can only be of that size what. How would it be possible to have 2 different sizes of 'Kueh Tutu'. In fact...

'Kueh Tutu'
Tada... Here you go, 2 different sizes of 'Kueh Tutu'. Even though
the bigger one doesn't have the nice prints on it, but no matter
how you take a look at it, it's still a 'Kueh Tutu'. Not only they
have the interesting sizes of 'Kueh Tutu', the overall dining
experience is pretty good too.

For a start, they really push the fillings to the limits. As you can
see, the layer of flour that wraps around the filling is pretty thin.
Frankly speaking, not only the proportions of the flour and the
fillings are pretty good, I love the sweet taste of the ingredients
(Regardless it's the crunchy peanuts or the coconut)too. Time to
packet a few home. :)

So where can you give the 'Kueh Tutu' a good try?

If only the portions were better...

Queuing, Queuing, Queuing. Sometimes, queuing up for a plate of food can be kinda boring and crazy. In fact with all the training(?) queuing up for good food, I think that this is a bit too cuckoo.

'Fried Kway Teow'
Stalls selling this type of 'Fried Kway Teow' are getting lesser and
lesser. Besides for the usual 'beansprouts', 'cockles', 'chives' and
'fried egg', they have also added slices of 'Chinese Sausages'. Though
there are several other variants out there that replaces the 'Chinese
Sausages' with either slices of fish cake or nothing, but from time
to time, I still prefer this type of 'Fried Kway Teow'.

For a start, the fried cockles doesn't comes with a foul taste taste.
On top of that, the crunchy and well prepared 'beansprouts' is a (+).
Best of all, the 'Kway Teow'(Rice Noodles) has this moist and yummy
touch, which is another (+). When you mix all the ingredients together,
there's a nice mixture of tender, juicy, chewy and crunchy ingredients.
On top of that there's also a nice mix of meaty, sweet and spicy taste,
which simply makes it better and better. One thing that I don't really
like about this type of 'Fried Kway Teow' would be the portion, which
is kinda small and a big disappointment to big eaters like me. :P

So where can you give this 'Fried Kway Teow' a good try?
The name of this stall would be 'Hill Street Fried Kway Teow'(禧街炒粿條).
It's located inside 'Bedok South Market and Food Centre'.

Smart Way of doing things :)

Even if the location is pretty good, sustaining a business isn't such an easy task. As for this place...

'Nasi Lemak'
They have quite a wide spread of ingredients over here. There's the
interesting mix of fried ingredients and as you move forward, there's
the cooked dishes section. As for a start, the vegetables are a bit
too watery. Not that they ain't tasty, it's just that the texture
makes it pretty dull. As for the fried stuff, they aren't too oily
and it's pretty okay too. Best of all, the crunchy peanuts haven't
disappoint me yet. :D Though I wouldn't say that the food here
are fantastically great, but the portions here are pretty alright and
the price are pretty okay too. On top of that, they are opened for
more than 20 hours per day, so if you happen to be hanging around that
area at night and there's a sudden urge for food, this would be an
affordable place to chill out, eat and drink a bit. :)

So where can you give the food a good try?
